"......但是《霍元甲》我是非常用心去拍的，因为我想通过这个电影把自己一生对武术的了解，对武术的感受，通过霍元甲这位武术界的前辈，通过他的故事讲述所有我对武术的认识。也希望是一个总结，因为好像一生都背着一个包袱：“通过电影宣传武术。”。希望通过《霍元甲》总结了以后，不再有任何的包袱，都放下了。"
There's a translation: "But for Fearless, I made this movie from my heart. It is a very personal story. I wanted to use this film to express everything I’ve learned in my life about wushu. Through the great master Huo Yuan Jia, I wanted to use his story to tell people how I felt about wushu. I also wanted to make this film a turning point in my career because I felt that up to this point my entire movie career has been dedicated toward the promotion of martial arts and wushu. After Fearless I hope that promoting wushu will not be the singular point of my movies."
